For many people, it can be hard to get your daily serving of greens in, and I’m no exception. Recently I was noticing I’d sometimes go several days without any at all, so that was when I decided to have them for breakfast! Getting my greens in first thing in the morning via breakfast smoothie ensures that I always get my daily serving.

For the base or liquid portion of my smoothie, I opt for around 3 liquid egg whites. This can be done through separating the yolk from the egg white, or by purchasing a carton of liquid egg whites. I do this because it helps me get my protein in, and because honestly they have no taste. For those of you who are wondering, I’ve been doing this for the past 4 years almost daily, and have never once gotten sick. Of course if you aren’t comfortable with this, you can swap it out for any non-dairy milk, non-dairy yogurt, or water. I say non-dairy because not only is dairy slow to digest (causing bloating), but it actually isn’t that healthy for you.

For texture and consistency, I always add a banana to my smoothies, no matter what type of smoothie it is. If you want your smoothie to be extra cold, try freezing a sliced up banana over night 🙂

Mango is the most important part of this smoothie because it helps neutralize the leafy flavor of the spinach and kale. It may seem like a lot, but I typically end up using an entire mango. However you can use as much or as little as you prefer.

Now time to add the greens! I add roughly two handfuls of fresh baby spinach leaves.

Next I add a few kale florets, about 3 medium sizes pieces. Kale can sometimes be difficult to blend and leave a chunky consistency, so make sure your blender is powerful! I use the Magic Bullet, and I highly recommend it.

Once I’m finished adding my fruits and veggies, I cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice out of one of the halves. Lemon acts as a detoxifying and digestive agent, and is also a great source of vitamin C and magnesium.

Lastly, I always top my smoothie off with turmeric. It’s scientifically proven to help prevent Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart disease. It also works as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, and has been known to improve symptoms of arthritis and depression.

Hope you enjoy! Xx
