As someone who can regularly suffers from food allergies and stomach sensitivity, I am no stranger to bloating. So over the years I have learned many different tricks and techniques to help reduce and sometimes eliminate bloating altogether. First I want to start by saying that while some of these are great to do daily, others are only meant to be done for special occasions.

Lets begin with the basics…

*Drink plenty of water!!! Seriously, dehydration causes bloating, and this can easily be avoided.

*Carbonated drinks such as sodas and sparkling waters are sure to cause bloating, as the gas bubbles will build up in your stomach. If you are not an avid sparkling water junkie like I am, then you will be all set.

*Lay off the Mexican food for the day. Spicy foods trigger more stomach acid which leads to bloating.

*While you’re at it, avoid high levels of sodium. Salty foods will trigger water retention and we want to avoid that.

*If you have a particular event or reason you want to look extra slender, then avoid complex carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread) at all costs! These things take longer for your body to digest, and causing your body to retain more water.

*Like carbs, dairy is also really slow to digest and many people without even realizing it have some sort of intolerance to dairy. That being said, you will want to steer clear of dairy for the day as well.

Now for the not-so-basics…

*Contour your face. I know this may sound silly but it will enhance your bone structure and give you the illusion of a more slim and angular face.

*This next tip goes great with the contouring, and that is to pull your hair back into a high ponytail or a half up-half down hairstyle. This will accentuate all the angles of your face and give you a slimmer appearance.

*Wear all black. Black is a very slimming color (which I’m sure most women know already), and will give the illusion of a taller, slimmer figure. Bonus points if you pair it with black shoes.

*Wear fitted clothes that actually fit you! Not too small obviously, but baggy clothes actually give the illusion that you are larger than you are (contrary to popular belief). You don’t want to look like a potato sack, it’s just not a sexy look.

*Self tanning is a great way to look slimmer instantly. Being tan emphasizes your angles and muscles and will make you look more toned.

*Avoid horizontal stripes as they automatically widen your figure.

*Love your flowy blouses? Go ahead and tuck those bad boys right into your pants for an immediately cinched in and polished look.

Now for the game changers…

*Dandelion root capsules not only detoxify your body, but are a great way to reduce water retention, especially when you have your period. If it’s that time of the month and I want look less bloated for a night out, I’ll take 3 capsules in the afternoon and 3 in the evening. While I love this method, it can make you have to use pee more frequently due to water removal.

*Activated charcoal far and away is the BEST method I have ever found to eliminate bloating almost immediately. Literally, my bloating is gone within 30 minutes. It works great if you’ve eaten a big meal or something that doesn’t agree with your body. The bloating you received from this is generally caused by toxins in your body. Activated charcoal binds itself to these toxins that your body is unable to absorb and pull them out. Also I get asked this often, and no it does not make me have to run to the restroom!
